During the 9th Ordinary Chapter of the KGM Province held from May 1, 1996, it was decided to request the Capuchin General Definitory in Rome to erect independent Vice-Provinces of Goa and of Maharashtra with the Holy Trinity Province of Karnataka being the Mother Province. Until then the states of Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra formed one province commonly known as the KGM Province. The Goan jurisdiction took St. Anthony as their patron, and finally on 13 December 1998 St. Anthony’s Vice-Province came into existence with late Fr. Felix Ferrao as its first Vice-Provincial.

One of the prominent resolutions of the Fifth Provincial Chapter of the Holy Trinity Province, Karnataka was to request the General Definitory to raise the Vice-Province of Goa to the status of a full-fledged Province.

The great event took place on Sunday 22 May 2011 during the Eucharistic celebration at the Alverno Friary Chapel, Monte de Guirim. The Minister General of the Capuchin Order, Fr. Mauro Jöhri himself was present on this solemn occasion.
